Penalty Clause by Lori Ryan - Interview and Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Lori will be awarding a Giana Bernini Handbag to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour. (US ONLY) Click on the tour banner to see the other stops in the tour.

Welcome to Lori, who was brave enough to answer some of our questions. Let's get started---why do you write in your genre? It’s what I read the most, so I guess you can say, it’s what I now. Someday, I plan to write some erotica and I hope to write a few mysteries. I’m having a hard time with the mysteries, though, because I don’t really like to see bad things happen. And, a mystery where something like someone’s lollipop is stolen instead of, oh say, a murder happens is boring. Lollipop theft isn’t gonna sell.

What draws you to it?
I love falling in love with the characters and, sometimes, whole towns full of people. Some of my favorite romance novels are the small town ones where you feel like you know all of the quirky weird people and if you read another book in the series, it feels like going home.

What research (or world-building – for fantasy/paranormal/Sci-fi) is required?
I set my first series in a place I had lived on purpose because I wanted to make things as simple as possible. I have no experience with writing. I’ve never taken a class or a workshop or anything, so I wanted something where the world was already built. I do occasionally have to shop for a car or house online for a character or look up information about how a phone call is really traced and that type of thing, but nothing major so far. Well, actually, now that I say that, I did research stalking and the different types of stalkers for the character in Penalty Clause who stalks Andrew.

Name one thing you learned from your hero/heroine.
To sometimes let them run amok. There’s a scene in Legal Ease where Jack tells his cousin, Chad, that his marriage is fake. I hadn’t planned that at all. I was typing and the next thing I knew, Jack had spilled the beans without consulting me. It turned out to be one of my favorite scenes, though.

Do you have any odd or interesting writing quirks, habits or superstitions?
Nope. Sorry. I’m boring and straightforward!

Are you a plotter or pantser?
For the most part, a plotter. I outline pretty heavily and then I write the scenes in my head before I ever sit down at the computer. Once I sit down, it’s just like spitting out what’s already been written.

Look to your right – what’s sitting there?
Printer. I love when I get to the phase of using my printer. That means I have a whole draft ready and I print it out, staple all of the chapters together and then read through it chapter by chapter. I add some together, take come chapters out, split some up – that type of thing. That’s a really satisfying stage to be at.

Anything new coming up from you?
What? I’m working on a novella that will be book 2.5 of the Sutton Capital Series. It will feature Jessica, Kelly’s sister, and a new character, Zach. I’m also working on book three. That features Jennie and Chad’s story. I’ve been dying to write their story from the beginning.

To keep her, he'll have to gamble it all!

Andrew Weston and Jill Walsh had to be the two most unlikely people to fall in love. When Jill's first husband's love for her simply fizzled and died, Jill knew she'd never trust that love could last again. After Andrew's first love betrayed him in the most brutal way possible, he knew he might fall in love again someday, but there was no way he'd ever make himself vulnerable again by confessing those feelings if he did.

Fate had a different ending in mind for these two, though, and when Andrew discovers his love for Jill, he knows the only way to get her to stay with him forever is to offer her an iron clad penalty clause in a prenuptial agreement. He stays with her forever or he loses everything he owns. The millions he's worked for, his property, his cars, everything. Now he just needs to hope that's enough to hold onto Jill forever.

Five out of Five Stars "Lori Ryan has done it again...I am just drawn in. On the hook. I want to know what is going to happen next. There were times when I really was physically holding my breath!"

Five out of Five Stars "I've been waiting for this book and wasn't disappointed. Great story and great characters. Andrew is sexy and steamy and hot!"
