In the final installment of the Sister Christian Series, the Court has demanded a hearing regarding Hannah's capacity. Hannah and Nick are falling deeper and deeper in love. Looking forward to a bright future together they begin planning their life together. A shadowy stranger from the past has set his sights on Hannah and her 3.5 million dollar trust fund. Is he really Rick MacNeill, the son Hannah thought died in the terrible fire at Saint Anne's? Is he someone sinister? The last of the family secrets come to light in this roller coaster ride of suspense, love, betrayal, and faith.

Enjoy an Excerpt:

"Me? No, ma'am, I went to school at Saint Mary's Orphanage, that's where I grew up. But I was born at Saint Anne's." He'd been anticipating a reaction but when her eyes welled with tears and the hot cup between them spilled its contents over her hands it was more than he'd hoped, "Ma'am? Are you ok? Here let me take that."

Letting go of the cup she picked up a nearby dishrag to wipe the hot broth from her hands, "Clumsy sometimes, I'm sorry, did you get…did you get burned?" Even as she handed over the dishrag for him to clean his hands, Hannah shook her head slightly admonishing herself. Of course he'd been burned, what a stupid thing to say.

Settling the cup of soup down on his tray he gave her a smile as he held up his hands for her to get a really good look, "They don't feel anything. I got burned a long time ago all the way to the bone."

A bolt of ice shot down Hannah's spine as she wavered on her feet with her knees suddenly threatening to give out from under her. "I'm-I'm sorry about that."

"Why? You didn't do it, did'ja?"

With her throat threatening to swell so much it cut off her air supply and her knees growing weaker, Hannah grabbed her side of the counter to keep steady as she choked out a question, "What's your name?"

"Richard, my friends call me Ricky." Without waiting for her to reply, he slid the tray down the line where the nun was waiting to give him French fries and a chicken salad sandwich. Taking his customary seat where he could see Hannah serving people from behind the line he watched her excuse herself and run off into the kitchen.

In the Tower of the Wizard King by Michelle Miles - Exclusive Excerpt and Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions Michelle will be awarding a digital copy of In the Tower of the Wizard King via Smashwords to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

In the Age of Wizards, Time is a commodity more valuable than gold. When Aoife (EE-fa) stumbles upon an antique trunk in the attic, it calls to her with an ancient magic. Inside she finds a stairway leading into darkness and cannot resist stepping onto that first stair. It leads her to dark truths her mother never wanted her to uncover and love so powerful she walks through time to save it.

Her magic is dormant.

When Aoife Burke rushes home after the unexpected death of her father, she discovers her mother has vanished amidst inexplicable circumstances. She returns to her childhood home to search for clues of her mother’s whereabouts but another shock awaits her. Sean O’Connell, the object of her girlhood crush, has purchased the family home. She senses Sean is hiding something from her, refuses to let her inside and does everything he can to keep her out. A determined Aoife breaks inside and stumbles upon an antique trunk in the attic. When she opens it, instead of the normal musty clothes and ancient letters, she finds a stairway leading into darkness. It calls to her and she cannot resist stepping into the trunk and onto that first stair where it leads her to magical truths her mother never wanted her to discover.

His magic is dangerous.

Sean O’Connell has been assigned by the Inter-dimensional Portal Protection Agency to keep Aoife and her mother out of Faery. But when she breaks into the house and disappears through the portal in the trunk—like her mother—he has no choice but to follow her, even though stepping into Faery will force him to face his past. Keeping her safe and out of the hands of the Wizard King also becomes a fight to save Aoife’s life from her own mother, who has discovered a time portal in Faery leading her back in time to alter her past mistakes, putting Aoife’s life in peril. Sean is willing to do anything to make sure she’s safe. Even if it means he has to tap into his dangerous magic to do it.

Enjoy an exclusive excerpt:

A truck rambled up the street and she turned to see a faded red Ford F-150 pick-up rattling its way toward the house. She shaded her eyes from the early morning sun to get a good look at the driver. He parked the truck, swung open the door, stepped out and paused.

Recognition hit her with the force of a straight-line wind. Sean O’Connell had been the object of her teenage crush. They stared at each other for a long, quiet moment. He looked exactly the same as he did when Aoife left home five years ago. The stiff breeze tousled his black hair and ruffled his white shirt.

She stepped off the porch as he started toward her, all confident masculinity.

“Aoife.” The sound of her name on his tongue was pure honey. The dark brown eyes reminded her of melted chocolate and were set deep in his chiseled, rugged features. “You have my deepest condolences on the death of your father.”

Grief punched her in the gut. She hadn’t really dealt with her father’s death yet. It was raw and new and she was still in shock. Her mother had been so odd about it when she’d phoned to tell her, and now her mother was missing. The only person who could give her answers was nowhere to be found.

“Thank you.” She glanced back up at the house, as though she would find the answer to the mystery. “I can’t find my mother.”

“She’s gone?” he asked, sounding astonished.

About the Author:
Michelle Miles grew up in North Central Texas in a rodeo town but was far more interested in nerdy things like Star Trek and Star Wars. She started writing fan fiction in high school. When being an archeologist like Indiana Jones or a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader didn't work out, she decided writing was her gig and has wanted to write her own stories ever since.

Her love of romance started when she picked up Victoria Holt and Daphne du Maurier and was immediately smitten with the genre. But she also found another love in the fantasies of Patricia A. McKillip and Anne McCaffrey. Since she couldn’t decide which genre to pick—and because she’s a true Gemini—she decided it would be super fun to write contemporary and fantasy romance. She is a member of Romance Writers of America and has served on the board of several chapters as president and treasurer.

In her spare time, she enjoys listening to music, reading, cross-stitching and watching movies. A Native Texan, she loves castle, dragons, fairies and elves and is an avid Game of Thrones fan. She can be found online at Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Goodreads.

7 stolen organs.
1 vengeful victim.
A gruesome sci-fi thriller.

Organ scrubbing was a bloody job, but somebody had to do it. Daniel, an orphan from the Gutter, was put to work scrubbing kidneys at aged twelve. The job had its perks: a warm bed, Law and Order reruns, and an all-you-can-eat Mopane worm buffet.

Until the Orphanage stole Daniel’s parts, and sold them on the organ market.

Now Daniel has grown up, and yearns to become whole again. The cybernetic organ replacements just aren’t the same – he needs his parts back. But the new owners of his organs won’t give them up. Not without a fight.

Just how far will Daniel go to regain his missing pieces? And how much more of himself will he lose along the way?

Defragmenting Daniel is a cyberpunk crime thriller that will unnerve you. Every part of you.

“A work of great imagination. Powerful and gripping.”
“A stark and moving experience.”

Enjoy an excerpt:

“Don’t worry about stepping on the limbs,” said Shoulders. “They’re crunchy underfoot, but you get used to it. Forensics cleared the scene before we got here.”

Kage knelt down. Examined a hand. Such small fingers. He shivered.

“Told you. No forensic traces on any of the limbs. No need to examine them. The vic fell from above.”

Kage looked up. In silhouette above the mobile spotlights, he could barely make out the ceiling. But there it was, a few yards up. He thought he saw square outlines of light perforating the concrete ceiling every five yards or so, stretching ever deeper into the vast underground hall.

Shoulders was on the move, ascending the mountain of human limbs. Kage followed. He scrabbled up the pile of arms and legs, toes and fingers, elbows and knees. He was surprised how yielding they were. How they bent under his weight. But Shoulders was right. He couldn’t ignore the crunch of breaking bones.

“Why’d we legalize this?”

Shoulders threw him a look. “Why not? They’re Gutter kids. This way at least the Bubble gets to have its fun without anyone getting hurt.”

One of the hands twitched, and Kage almost lost his footing.

Shoulders held Kage by the wrist. “Woah, you don’t want to be doing that. Those fingernails will rip you open if you land badly. Happened to Jensen just before you got here. Poor guy almost lost his cheek.” Shoulders shone a victory smile.

“Thanks,” mumbled Kage.

“Vic’s just on the other side of that ridge.” Shoulders pointed to a mound of limbs that looked a little fresher, a little more plump and moist, than the rest.

Kage trudged on behind the Detective. Climbed the hillock of arms. Had to grab hold of more than one to ascend it.

“What … what do they do with them?” asked Kage, breathing heavily under the mask. Beads of moisture condensed on the curve of his lower lip.

“Do with what?”

“The body parts?”

“I hear they send the fresh ones for scrubbing. The rest …” Shoulders shrugged. “The vic’s over here.”

More mobile spotlights, their metal poles staked in the pile of flesh around the body.

Kage looked for the flashing red light at the bottom-right corner of his vision. Recording. Good.

He knelt down. Pulled out a pair of gloves from his leather jacket pocket. He shuddered to think what the jacket would look like after this mess. But that wouldn’t matter if he solved this case. It was the Mayor’s brother. Captain Weeks would pay plenty to the investigator who solved this.

Sometimes it all adds up to love . . .

By day, Kathryn Wallace is a dowdy, introverted financial whiz whose sole focus is her career. But after hours, to protect her professional interests, she lets loose as Kat Grantham, a sexy, smart, incredibly sassy female dynamo unafraid to speak her mind. Whoever she is, it won’t matter if she’s in jail, indicted for insider trading at her family’s brokerage firm. But one thing’s clear, her heart is not part of the equation. Until a hot variable walks through the doors of her firm . . .

Ben Higgins is working undercover as Bernie “the nerd” Higgenbottom. Somehow he can’t quite believe the innocent “librarian” he’s been sent to investigate is at the bottom of a potentially huge SEC scandal. Until he discovers she’s not who or what she appears to be—and that she’s being set up by someone inside the firm. Now, as much as Ben wants to get Kat under the covers, he’ll have to stay undercover to protect her from a ruthless Wall Street bully . . .

Enjoy an Excerpt:

Reflected in the bar mirror, chest out in a practiced pose, stood the man who’d been hitting on her the past couple of months. He was staring at her ass and licking his lips.

“Who does he think he is?” Kat flicked her thumb in his direction.

Jill shrugged and knocked back a shot of tequila. “Ignore him.”

“What an ass.” Kat took a deep breath, spun her chair around, tipped her head back, then stared down her nose at him. “Can I help you?”

From his sandy-blond hair, to his baby blues that matched his dress shirt, to his fancy Italian loafers, he was impeccably dressed. A beautifully tailored charcoal-grey pinstriped suit showcased his captivating physique, and the pants hugged his hips.

Big deal…so he was hot. His ignorance made her want to throw up.

“You heard me, Baby. I’m fighting the urge to make you the happiest woman on Earth tonight. How about we ditch this place and see what we can come up with?” He moved like a hula girl bobblehead, complete with swiveling eyebrows and hips. Then he had the nerve to wink while jingling the change in his pocket.

Why did the gorgeous ones have to act like they think they’re a gift to women? “You’re joking, right?” An indelicate chuckle escaped her lips.

The grin slipped from his face. She wouldn’t have been surprised to look down only to find that bulge in the front of his pants drop to his ankles like a rolled up sock. Guys like him would try anything.

“Hmm.” She spun her chair back around to the bar. Frustrated at the audacity of some men, she leaned over to Jill. “What is it with guys these days? They meet an interesting woman and instead of trying to sweep her off her feet with a bit of romance, they have to go and show you how disgusting they are when they open their mouths.” It was turning out to be one hell of a lousy night.

“Serves you right for being so damn beautiful. They can’t keep a civilized tongue in their mouths.” Jill’s shoulders shook as she snorted with laughter.

Kat did her best impression of Jill’s heartthrob, The Rock, giving her The People’s Eyebrow, a lone highly arched eyebrow that shut a person up instantaneously.

Jill continued to laugh, not the least bit intimidated.

“Some days I just hate coming here. Too bad it’s my favorite place in town. If only I didn’t like to dance so much. Guess it’s one of the pitfalls I’ll have to learn to live with because I certainly don’t plan on letting guys ruin my downtime.”

Fast forward never took so long . . .
,br> Kit Runyon isn’t looking for a man to keep—she’s happy with the occasional one-night stand and no strings. Making sure her family’s electronics repair shop is profitable enough to support three generations is her main focus. But when Brian Hendricks walks into the store, one look, one word, and she knows he’s not wired like any man she’s ever met before . . .

Brian’s attracted to Kit’s strength and no-nonsense attitude, but he’s tired of the one-and-done dating scene. He’s ready to settle down with the right woman, even if that means he’ll have to play things slow and stay out of her bed to show her there’s more to love than just mind-blowing sex. But at this rate he’s liable to short all the circuits . . .

Enjoy an Excerpt:

Brian drummed the steering wheel, half in time with the radio pumping out classic rock, half in annoyance at the truck ahead.

Racks of shiny diamond-tread toolboxes rode the bed rails above a pristine white body. Early June sun meant good things for the fields of patchy green blobs slipping past in neat rows. Near-sunset glare off the truck meant less-good conditions for his eyes. Shouldn’t have stayed late to finish the terrain analysis and forgotten his sunglasses at his desk. He flipped the visor down.

They cruised along at the speed limit, courtesy of the work truck’s driver. Dead-on, not even the nickel above everyone did. Good thing the delivery menus plastered on his fridge wouldn’t complain when he walked in late on a Thursday night.

Eight-inch-high black letters taunted him from the tailgate. You break it, we’ll take it.

Towing company, maybe, but the back lacked a winch or a hoist or—

The tail-end bounced. The back tire uncoiled. Pop-thud-smack.

As thick rubber flapped and flew, he jerked the car hard right. “Motherf—”

Streaking past the driver’s side in chunks, the tire missed the windshield by inches. The burnt rubber stench invaded his coupe via the open window. Close enough to singe a cat’s whiskers, Christ.

The truck wobbled but recovered, coasting in a straight line without the knee-jerk flash of brake lights. Good man behind the wheel to keep a steady hand in a blowout.

Matching the driver’s gradual slowdown, he tamed his roaring pulse and coasted his coupe onto the gravel shoulder. No traffic in the rearview, but he snapped on the flashers for good measure. Light bounced off the truck’s tailgate deco.

Might as well help the guy get back on the road.

The pickup driver shoved open his door. Hefty dude with a beer gut descending in three, two—

A tanned beauty hopped out of the cab, raised her hand across her brows, and stared toward him.

Secrets of Nanreath Hall by Alix Rickloff - Spotlight and Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Alix will be awarding a digital copy of Secrets of Nanreath to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

So, my assignment, should I choose to accept, is to share five things you’d probably never guess about me. That leaves out such facts as my love of history, romantic movies, and Colin Firth. And don’t even get me started when all three of those unite to create one enormous emotional “Awww” moment. No, you want five things you’d never ever begin to guess so here goes in no particular order or significance…

1) I live in the house I grew up in. Yup, that’s right. I moved in when I was six and never moved out. Well, maybe for college and then there were those lost years while I banged around trying to tell myself I loved the hustle and bustle of suburban life. It didn’t work, and so I came home, settling back into my childhood home as if I’d never left. Despite the endless to-do list that goes along with maintaining a house built while John Quincy Adams was president, I love the sense of continuity that comes with roots dug fifty years deep in the same place.

2) I listen to sports radio while I work. Ok, well, maybe that’s not completely accurate. I tend to listen to movie soundtracks while I write. But if I’m in my office sifting through the unending list of chores that spring up in writing’s wake, there’s nothing I like more than to listen to reports on how my beloved Ravens plan on bouncing back from a dismal season or opinions on whether the O’s can hold onto their tenuous grip of first place in the AL East to make it into the playoffs.

3) I am a huge fan of The Andy Griffith Show. OK, again maybe not completely accurate. Once Deputy Fife left Mayberry, the show lost some of its sparkle as no one could match the amazing straight man/comic chemistry he had with Griffith. Did the show portray an unrealistically rosy vision of small-town America? Sure. But it imparted its sweet message with subtle humor and eminently quotable one-liners. As Barney Fife might say, “Well, some of us got it, some of us ain't.”

4) I’ve never read To Kill A Mockingbird. Don’t tell my brother who is a HUGE Harper Lee fan, but somehow I managed to get through high school and college without once cracking open that American classic. Silas Marner, Bridge Over San Luis Rey, Catcher In the Rye, Jane Eyre, 1984; all parsed and picked over in many a Lit class, but for some reason no professor ever assigned it, and I never picked it up on my own, probably because I was busy scouring the library for sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, and romance. Sorry, Chris. Don’t disown me.

5) Last but not least, I have four middle names. As the only daughter among a sea of sons, my parents chose to saddle me with every girl’s name they had stored up for the long anticipated occasion. Thus when you add my first name, maiden name, and last name to those four middle names, I can go toe to toe with any royal offspring you throw at me.

So, there you are—five things you’d never have guessed about me…

…Surprised?

Cornwall, 1940. Back in England after the harrowing evacuation at Dunkirk, WWII Red Cross nurse Anna Trenowyth finds herself unexpectedly assigned to Nanreath Hall-her dead mother's childhood home. All Anna has left of her mother, Lady Katherine Trenowyth, are vague memories that tease her with clues she can't unravel. Anna knows this could be the chance for her to finally become acquainted with the family she's never known-and to learn the truth about her past.

Cornwall, 1913. In the luxury of pre-WWI England, Lady Katherine Trenowyth is expected to do nothing more than make a smart marriage. When Simon Halliday, a bohemian painter, enters her world, Katherine begins to question the future that was so carefully laid out for her. Her choices soon lead her away from the stability of her home and family toward a wild existence of life, art, and love.

As Anna is drawn into her newfound family's lives and their tangled loyalties, she must decide if the secrets of the past are too dangerous to unearth…and if the family she's discovered is one she can keep.

Enjoy an Excerpt:

Buildings leaned drunkenly on their foundations, their windows blown out, doors knocked from hinges. A jagged gap like a missing tooth was all that was left of the butcher’s shop. The pub looked comfortingly unscathed until she approached, then she noticed a tumbled slide of bricks and shingles where the roof had collapsed. A gleam of brass railing poked up through fallen plaster and splintered beams. A pint glass stood half-filled on a table in a corner. A dart stuck dead center in the dartboard still hanging on the back wall.

Ten paces. Twenty. The damage greater, the houses tumbled and spilled like a child’s toppled building blocks. Smoke hung low like a morning fog across the Thames. A few firemen replaced their hoses upon a truck. A policeman unrolled a coil of rope across the pavement where a set of marble steps led to . . . nothing.

No.

Anna’s chest tightened. Her throat closed around a hard painful knot. Pain lanced down her leg, buckling her ankle. The awkward weight of the valise knocked her to her knees. Dirt bit into her skin, scraped her hands raw. She retched, but there was nothing in her stomach except the weak tea she’d drunk this morning on the train. Still, she felt her insides shriveling, darkness crowding the edges of her vision.

It couldn’t be. There was some mistake. She was having another nightmare. She would open her eyes to see curtains at the windows and geraniums on the stoop. Graham and Prue standing on the steps to meet her.

“Here now, miss. Are you all right? You took a nasty spill on these cobbles.”

The Other Side of Hope by R.F. Dunham - Guest Blog and Giveaway

Five Things You Probably Wouldn't Guess about R.F. Dunham

I don’t think this is a question I’ve ever been asked before, in all of the interview and guests post that I’ve done! So I’m even more curious than you to see how this turns out.

1. I don’t wear shoes. With very few exceptions, I go barefoot all the time. It’s actually good for your back, knees, and joints overall to avoid wearing shoes and I find it’s a great way to feel connected with the world around me. When I do have to wear shoes, I use something with a thin, flat, flexible sole.

2. I ride a motorcycle. Not particularly weird or interesting, I guess, but given my appearance, people tend to be surprised that I ride. I’ve ridden in pretty much every type of weather Virginia has to offer, from stifling humidity, to cold rain, and even a little bit of ice. And yes, the motorcycle is one of those situations in which I wear shoes!

3. I don’t eat meat. No, that doesn’t mean I eat salad for every meal. My wife and I eat a plant-based, whole foods diet. That means we use fresh, natural ingredients, and cook mostly from scratch. It’s not as difficult as it sounds and I promise it tastes way better than any other food you’ve ever had!

4. I like to travel and enjoy being in other countries more than being home in America. There are plenty of great things about living in America, but I’ve always felt more at home in other places. In fact, I tend to feel more culture shock returning to America than I do living in another country!

5. I’m a band geek. I participated in every band activity possible in high school and now I’m the assistant band director for a high school band in my area. I also play trumpet and keyboard in a low key, post rock band.

If you want to learn more about me, I’d love for you to join the Inciteful Fiction community. Head over to DunhamWriter.com and sign up for my email list and I’ll send you two free books chapter by chapter, as I’m writing them!

In 732 A.D., the Frankish and Burgundian forces led by Charles Martel defeated an army of the Umayyad Caliphate led by Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi and halted the Muslim advance into Christian Europe. At least, that's what happened in the world as you know it.

Step into the world of The Other Side of Hope, where the world as you know it is turned on its head. A world where Charles Martel fell on that field south of Tours, France and was never given his nickname, "The Hammer." A world where Europe came under Muslim rule and Christianity was eventually forced to flee to the shores of a distant land in search of religious freedom. A land where, without support from European colonial powers, they found only conflict and poverty.

In the modern day, this world remains divided. The wealthy Muslim East and the poverty-stricken Christian West are constantly at odds. A single spark is all it takes to ignite fresh conflict and the cycle seems never-ending.

Follow the paths of Ethan Lewis and Hamid Damir as they are put on a collision course with the other side. Will they find hope for a brighter future or be lost in the despair of intractable conflict?

Enjoy an excerpt:

When Ethan saw Elisa turn the corner, his eyes lingered on her face for only an instant. The familiar details of her delicate features filled his mind at once and he wondered how they could have ever become blurred. He would have focused on those features longer, much longer. Would have memorized every inch of her face, from the curve of her cheeks, to her soft nose, to the gentle slope of her chin, to her soft red lips, and shining blue eyes.

He would have stared for hours and maybe he would have never left again. But his eyes were immediately drawn away from her face and to her belly, which was large and round.

Ethan stared at her pregnant stomach for a heartbeat that stretched on endlessly. He blinked once and then hot anger, augmented by the sharp pain of betrayal, flared. He’d been gone for months and she’d gotten pregnant with another man’s child while he was fighting for their future.

He took a step toward her and she must have seen the rage in his eyes because she rested a hand on her stomach and backed away. Seeing her fear broke through Ethan’s anger and he stopped.

“Is it…?” he asked softly, almost breathless.

Elisa nodded once, just a small dip of her chin and Ethan knew it was true.

It was his child she was carrying. He was suddenly ashamed that he could have ever thought anything different. Elisa would never betray him.

Even though the revelation of her pregnancy was a shock, Ethan had to admit that it was possible. He hadn’t truly even considered the possibility that it would happen, that she would become pregnant before they were married. Or maybe he had just assumed that it wouldn’t matter if she did, that they would be married either way and no one would ever know the difference.

Yet here they stood.

Ethan stood just inside the doorway, wrestling with feelings of desperation and duty. Elisa at the end of the hallway, eyes wide with a potent mixture of fear and hope.

Ethan held those eyes with his own for a moment longer, then came to his decision. “I’m going to Turkey. Today.”

Annabel Tilson is a medical student starting her first clinical rotation where she has high hopes of mastering patient care like her famous neurosurgeon father. However, she soon realizes that studying for surgery exams and taking care of patients is only part of the complex burden of her role as a surgical team member.

Grappling with a resident who hates her and a dreamy infatuation for her chief resident, she discovers an inordinate outbreak of patient mortality. But for Annabel to dig further puts her at risk of failing the rotation and ending her future career as a physician.

Enjoy an excerpt:

She had started the surgery rotation the day before so Annabel Tilson barely knew her patients from the list of names that had been shoved into her hands. As a third-year medical student, the day had been hectic; therefore, a short introduction to them and a quick listen to their chests with her first shiny Littmann stethoscope had sufficed. But this morning as she squeezed in close to the bed and looked down at a dead corpse, she remembered the sixty-five-year-old woman, Mrs. Hardy, with clarity from visiting her in her room and watching her surgery in awe.

During the first surgery that Annabel had witnessed on her clinical rotation, the chief resident performed a minimally-invasive gallbladder removal - or laparoscopic cholecystectomy - causing the long mechanical instruments to protrude from her patient’s belly like the squirming arms of a squid. No one indicated at the time or postoperatively that anything had been complicated about the case, so why was her patient dead? She admonished herself for missing the resuscitative attempt before she’d walked into the room; medical supplies, carts, and equipment were scattered about the bed and floor but personnel paid no attention as they began exiting through the doorway.

Determined to prove her worth, Videl chases after Raj and works to unravel the mystery of the plots against the Empress. When the conspiracy against Raj comes to a head, Videl's loyalties are tested when she is forced to choose between her past and her Empress.

Enjoy an Excerpt:

I stood up and slowly walked to one of the torches along the wall. That fire festival where we'd had our first time together… I took the torch and went back to her. Videl stared at me—expectant, anxious. I moved the fire closer to her face. She steeled her eyes and waited. She didn't protest. She didn't shirk away from me.

“Ain't you scared?” I wondered. Videl shook her head. “It's fire for fuck's sake! Any normal person would've told me to cut it out by now.”

“You wouldn't burn me with it. I know you like my face too much to do that.”

I laughed and said, “Oh, so it's all logic with you? Your imagination must be full of rocks.”

“This might have played out differently if I were in subspace,” she pointed out. “But, right now, I'm not bothered by it. I can reason myself out of most situations. It's hard to suspend my disbelief. I trust you to be logical, too. If you burned me, you wouldn't get to show me off to Nyte later on.”

“Show you off, huh?” I asked, putting the torch back. “You think that's what I wanna do?”

“I have a feeling you'll want to when the time comes.”

“We'll see about that. For now I wanna see more about suspendin' your disbelief.”

Videl was about to ask me what I meant—until I picked her up and threw her down onto the polished wood of the table. I straddled her, watching her pulse pick up along her neck. She bit down on her lip to keep from making a sound.

Giving true love a spin . . .

Michelin Moses is a country music star on the rise. With a hit single under his Texas-sized belt buckle and a sold-out concert tour underway, his childhood dreams of making it big are finally coming true. But there’s one thing missing—a promise to his dying mother that he’d find it—him—when the time was right. With a little luck, he won’t have to wait too long . . .

Lucky Ramirez is a hunky boy toy who dances at The Broom Closet, one of West Hollywood’s hottest gay bars. He loves what he does, and he’s good at it—almost as good as he is at playing dumb when he spots Michelin Moses at the bar. What happens next is off the charts—and keeps Michelin coming back for more. He’s just not sure it’s the right move for his career. But if Lucky gets his way, Michelin will get Lucky—and no matter how the media spins it, neither of them will be faking it . . .

Enjoy an excerpt:

Michelin Moses had no business at a gay bar, especially not one as notorious as West Hollywood’s The Broom Closet. And the line to get in totally underscored that—the vestibule was a long, narrow tunnel filled with kids out to enjoy their Friday night. Babies, really. Fresh-faced young things who probably didn’t even need to shave jostled one another in the tight space, laughing and joking as they admired one another’s club wear and gossiped about who was fucking who.

Not that Michelin was listening in, but the space was so tiny it was hard not to. He didn’t have club wear to ogle. He had “please for the love of God don’t notice me” clothes. And the idea of openly pointing to another dude in line and announcing to one’s friends, “Oh yeah, I hit that last weekend” was so totally foreign that he couldn’t help but gape a bit. The plexiglass walls of the tunnel gave off weird shadows—neither the lights outside the club nor the dim track lighting along the bottom edge of the tunnel were enough illumination.

He tugged at the collar of his Henley shirt. Damn, it was hot in here. Too small. Too tight. Not enough air. Shut up. He was not claustrophobic. If this line ever moved, he’d feel better once he was inside the Closet.

If that’s not a metaphor for your whole damn life . . .

“ID please.” Finally, the line reached the bouncers who were taking ID. Michelin couldn’t even remember the last time he’d had to stand around like this, show ID. At least unlike these nineteen-year-olds with their fake identification, Michelin’s Oregon driver’s license was likely to hold up. The bouncer was a huge guy—so tall and jacked that Michelin felt for the tiny stool that held him up—with surprisingly small, delicate hands.

Nile is an attractive aristocrat whose charm and arrogance drives Symone insane. Beyond Symone’s control, Nile is spun into her life. But she’s not sure if she can have a relationship with him or where that could lead her. Embracing love could make her whole again, but it may also destroy her. Symone must travel through the opaque light in order to find where her destiny lies.

Symone’s family, Shiray and Syira, continue to fight in the feuds of their galaxy. Together they have to find the balance between compassion and sacrifice. Enjoy an Excerpt:

I got my wish over the next few weeks. I spent a ton of time with sweet Nile. His excuse was that I was his new apprentice in regard to ships. He didn’t need a reason, but I was glad we had one. It made it easier for us to pretend … for me, anyway.

Late one evening, Nile and I were in his bedroom. He shut his computer down. Then came over and sat next to me on the sofa in his sitting area. As he did, a pillow fell on the floor. He leaned down to pick it up, and grazed my side on his way up. I giggled. His hazels grew mischievous.

“You’re ticklish?”

“Very.”

Nile reached over to graze my side again. I giggled more. “Your laugh is adorable.”

I leaned back, putting my arms up in self-defense. “You wouldn’t.”

He beamed. “Oh, yeah, I would.” He attacked, using both hands to tickle me silly. I fell on my back, kicking, unable to defend myself. He was so much bigger than me. I went into hysterics. I hadn’t been tickled like this since I was a child. He pinned me down and continued to torture me.

“Nile … please … stop!” He finally did and had somehow ended up between my legs. His mouth parted. I tried to play it off. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“I can’t help it. You’re so gorgeous.”

We leaned toward each other at the same time, our lips locked. Since our first flight training, we had only shared timid, quick kisses. But this kiss was explosive. I moaned as he entangled his hands in my hair. Having a dress on was dangerous territory. As he lowered himself on top of me, it rose to my hips. Nile groaned as I gripped his bottom tighter. It only egged him on. He began to move slowly in between my legs. I gasped because I could feel all of him moving against me. Nile glided his tongue across my neck. I jerked as sensations flared through me. Was I really ready to cross this line? At this rate, it wouldn’t be long before my train of thought vanished. And I wouldn’t be able to stop. I had been intimate before. But I wanted the next man I slept with to be the one I would marry. Fate was so cruel. I’d been with the man I thought I would marry, only to lose him. I didn’t think I could open my heart again so life could crush it with despair. The realization that I could lose Nile made my chest tighten. I froze. He pulled back.

“Symone, what’s wrong?”

I could only imagine the expression of horror on my face. I bit my lip. We both sat up as I pulled my dress down.

“I’m sorry if I moved too fast.”

“No, it’s not that.”

He rubbed my cheek and forced me to look at him. “Tell me, please?”

“It’s just that…” I broke from his grasp and shook my head. How did I tell him I seemed to lose everyone I cared about? I was cursed, because my loved ones were hurt or killed when they were with me.

Nile sighed. “Is this about your ex-suitor, your feelings toward him?”

“It’s about him in a sense.”

“What does that mean?” He balled his hands into fists.

“I will always care about him.”

Nile’s nostrils flared and he turned away. “Why did you kiss me back the first time? Why do you continue to spend time with me?”

Song of the Oceanides by J.G. Zymbalist - Interview and Giveaway

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. One randomly chosen winner via rafflecopter will win a $50 Amazon/BN.com gift card. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Welcome to It's Raining Books. What are your favorite TV shows?

Most of the time, I don’t care what I watch—as long as it comes from the New-Hollywood Era. That’d be circa 1970 to circa 1980. I’ll watch any genre of movie or television show from that era—even commercials. For whatever reason, seventies cinematography pleases me. Today everything looks too clear and perfect and digital. Everything looks like a video game or a computer screen.

What is your favorite meal?

Probably fish and chips or bangers and mash with bread and butter. Most people malign British street food, but I love it. I love most kinds of street food actually.

If you were to write a series of novels, what would it be about?

Someday I do hope to write a loosely-related trilogy of novels which, in a diverting way, would serve to explicate the purpose of civilization and the dangers of primitivism. In between the book about civilization and the book about primitivism, I would write a book about the harrowing way in which civilization intersects with primitivism: politics.

Is there a writer you idolize? If so who?

I don’t idolize any one writer, but my influences include: Basho, Ray Bradbury, Goethe, Heine, Nietzsche, Georges Bataille, Hesiod, Erik Linklater, and Ian Fleming. I suppose it’s a bit of an eclectic mix, but probably everyone else has an eclectic set of preferences.

How did you come up for the title of this book?

I took it from Heine’s “Der Gesang der Okeaniden,” which translates to “Song of the Oceanides.” The German poem describes a lovesick man standing on a beach in Bremen. There he announces his adoration for some beautiful maiden, but as soon as he’s finished making his amatory confession, the Oceanides call out to tell him what a total loser he is.

I agree with Heine that the Oceanides are the most fascinating mean girls in world literature. This is because the Oceanides ring true. Sirens are half-bird, and I don’t meet many women answering to that description. On the other hand, an Oceanide is just a very beautiful insensitive young lady who happens to live on the beach. Everybody knows someone like that.

Song of the Oceanides is a highly-experimental triple narrative transgenre fantasy that combines elements of historical fiction, YA, myth and fairy tale, science fiction, paranormal romance, and more. For ages 10-110.

Read an excerpt:

Dyce’s Head, Maine.
31 August.

Rory Slocum had only just returned home from Putnam’s General Store and Newsagent when he noticed the girl standing in the heart of the garden. She seemed to be lost in the music of the wind chimes dangling from Mother’s lilac tree. Still, despite the girl’s seeming innocence, somehow he just knew that she must be one of the Oceanides who had been taunting him all summer long.

She must have heard his footsteps in the salty afternoon breeze because she turned to look upon him. What a comely girl too.

A bit of jam and then some! He stopped in his tracks and studied her classical features.

She had plum-black hair, eyes of sea green, bold chiseled planes to her face, fine hallowed cheeks, and a sharp jaw line. How could she be anything but an Oceanide?

Slowly he advanced as far as the fog cannon where he paused a second time. Perhaps he would do something so as to entertain her, and once she realized how amusing he could be, she would tell the others to leave him be. He walked over to the lilac tree. “Look what I’ve got here!” With that he held up his copy of Sir Pilgarlic Guthrie’s Phantasy Retrospectacle.

She must have resented the whole notion that a boy like Rory would even think to approach someone like her. Grimacing, she called to another girl who had just walked up through the gale-torn bluffs. The two of them spoke in a tongue resembling the Byzantine Greek in which the drunken churchwarden sometimes delivered his public addresses.

As giddy as ever, Rory advanced a few more steps. “You know what they call this sort of picture book, do you? Down at Putnam’s, they tell me it’d be un comique pittoresque. Just like the newsagents sell down there in Paris.” Now he pointed to the picture on the dust jacket—the Oceanides’ long flowing hair and the mint-cream linen gowns reaching down to their ankles. Afterward he pointed at the girls themselves standing there in their own creamy-white gowns. “Sir Pilgarlic Guthrie, he’s the bettermost! Everything bang up to the elephant and—”

“Have you any idea how odd you are?” the first Oceanide asked. “And you’ll be beginning your fifth year in school next fall, isn’t that right? They’ll tear you apart, a beanpea like you.”
